Sustainability
There are four pillars in our strategy, namely:

· our environment
· our customers
· our colleagues and communities

We have set targets across the four pillars to drive the transition to total sustainability. These range from energy reduction to apprenticeship schemes, from on-farm carbon footprints to salt reduction.

Although the strategy is in its infancy, the business is already benefitting. Take, for instance:

· our success in the Arena NI Environmental Benchmarking Survey as a top-rated red meat company
· our ‘GreenTrack’ farmer, who was runner up in the M&S Farmer of the Year
· one of our apprentices, who received the Recognition Award at the Northern Ireland 2012 Apprentice of the Year Awards

Our policy
Our Environment:

We are aware of the impact our activities and processes can have on the environment. We wish to exert strong levels of control over our operations, driving reductions in carbon and water footprints, and operating as efficiently as possible.

Our Colleagues & Communities:

Our people are our most valuable assets. We are committed to offering them a safe, rewarding and challenging workplace, with lots of opportunities for training and development. We ensure we are in full compliance with ethical codes in regard to welfare, and operate an environment where all employees are treated with dignity and respect. The health and wellbeing of every employee is important—they have access to the occupational nurse and membership of their own personal healthcare plan.

We have established close links with a number of local colleges and universities, providing their students with the opportunity to learn more about our industry. We equip them with skills that will help them develop and pursue their careers. We work to support both the global and local communities in which we operate, with annual fundraising events for nominated charities.

Our Agriculture:

We promote efficient beef and lamb production from sustainable farming practices by working closely with our farmers. We lead by example to ensure the highest possible standards in all aspects of animal welfare and environmentally friendly farming. We endeavour to work with all our partners to develop a truly sustainable supply chain.

Our Customers & their Customers:

Food quality and safety is paramount. We continue to enhance both, while minimising waste, improving efficient use of packaging, and contributing to improved shelf lives. The result is less waste from us, our customers, and consumers.
